TORONTO - Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Edwin Encarnacion underwent surgery on his left wrist last week while centre-fielder Vernon Wells is expected to have surgery on his left wrist next week.

Both players should be ready ahead of spring training, the team said Tuesday.

Encarnacion had a large bone spur shaved off his hamate bone Friday. He missed about two months last season with a fracture in his left wrist.

The procedure for Wells will repair some cartilage damage.

He suffered through a miserable year at the plate, hitting .260 with 15 homers and 66 RBIs in 158 games.

What should the Blue Jays do with pitcher Roy Halladay?
  Trade him in offseason
  Move him at trade deadline
  Keep him for 2010 season
  Convince him to stay
