GLOVE MEN

In the first 90 games of the year, the Blue Jays allowed just 21 unearned runs. In the most recent 48 games, they have allowed 26 unearned runs. Despite that drop-off in fielding efficiency, Toronto still maintains the No. 1 fielding percentage in the American League, at .988. Heading into last night's game they had committed 66 errors in 138 games.

SORE ELBOW

Relief pitcher Josh Roenicke has been bothered by some minor soreness in his right elbow that has kept him out of action since he last pitched in Boston on Aug. 28.

In that game, he threw two perfect innings, striking out three. Roenicke came over to the Jays from Cincinnati along with third baseman Edwin Encarnacion and pitcher Zach Stewart in exchange for Scott Rolen on July 31.

Stewart pitched at three minor-league levels this season, finishing at Triple A Las Vegas. His cumulative record was 4-1 with a 1.89 ERA, allowing 105 hits in 105 innings. Fourteen of Stewart's 34 appearances were as a starter and that's where the Jays see him next season.

SILENCE, PLEASE

It was so quiet in the Rogers Centre last night that half the crowd jumped at the noise of a bat being smashed in frustration in the Minnesota dugout, where Justin Morneau had retreated after Roy Halladay struck him out in the fourth inning.

UP NEXT
