CHAVEZ ROLLS
Speed-challenged catcher Raul Chavez pulled off a great delayed steal of third in the seventh inning. On a 2-2 pitch to Marco Scutaro, Chavez intentionally moved far off second and when Angels catcher Mike Napoli threw to second, Chavez sprinted (?) to third, beating the relay throw from Howie Kendrick. It was his first stolen base of the season, first since 2005 when he was with Houston, and the fourth of his career.
DOWNS NOT OUT
LHP Scott Downs, who is on the disabled list with an injured big toe on his left foot, rejoined the team and is expected to be activated today. Downs made three rehab appearances at class-A Dunedin. In his finale Saturday, he worked a scoreless inning. Manager Cito Gaston said that, when Downs returns, he won't immediately return to his closer role that is being held down by RHP Jason Frasor.
FRASOR FINE
Frasor has been out of action since throwing a scoreless inning Tuesday against Boston because of shoulder tendinitis. "I'm OK now," Frasor said yesterday. "I could have been used Saturday in an emergency situation and was ready to go today (Sunday) if needed. All I needed was some rest."
