LAST NIGHT AT TORONTO

BACK IN CENTRE

Centre fielder Vernon Wells made his return to the Blue Jays lineup after a weekend bout of stomach flu. Wells was tested in the first as the Indians' Asdrubal Cabrera tripled over his reach in the first and Ben Francisco doubled just past him in the second.

"We have to get him in there," manager Cito Gaston said. "He hasn't played in 11 days."

Adam Lind, who has occupied the No. 3 hole of late, was given a day off against starter Cliff Lee.

REHAB OUTINGS

Starter Scott Richmond made his first rehab outing for the rookie-class Gulf Coast Jays on Monday pitching 31/3 innings and allowed nine hits, including a homer, and three earned runs. He walked a man and struck out five. Shaun Marcum made his fourth rehab assignment at double-A New Hampshire last night.

IT'S ALL ON DOC

Will the Jays do more than trade Halladay?

"Everything feeds off Halladay," general manager J.P. Ricciardi said. "The first thing we have to do is decide whether to trade him. If we are, we could do other things."

The Cincinnati Reds have discussed third baseman Scott Rolen internally, although the Reds will not take on all of Rolen's $11-million US contract for 2010.

Soon-to-be free agent Marco Scutaro could also be dealt.

DH WOES

Kevin Millar, hitting .176 (16-for-91) in his previous 28 games, started at DH last night against Lee.

"If he continues to struggle, maybe we'll do something different," Gaston said.
