HOMEWARD BOUND
Roy Halladay, who starts tonight at Rogers Centre against the Florida Marlins, along with tomorrow's Blue Jays starter, Casey Janssen, flew back to Toronto yesterday afternoon to ensure that Halladay gets a good night's rest for his start. Janssen rode along as Halladay's muscle and bag carrier.
BIG DAY OFF
Shortstop Marco Scutaro was back in the lineup last night and remains as the lone Blue Jays player to start every game this season. Manager Cito Gaston planned on giving Scutaro the day off Wednesday and it turned out that every player got a day off due to the heavy rains which washed out the game. Gaston said he gave no thought to giving Scutaro last night off as well. "No, he wants to play," Gaston said. "The only guy that's really disappointed is Mac (John McDonald), he didn't get a chance to play."
PROUD PAPA
There was much excitement in Brad Arnsberg's household when, in the 45th round, the Boston Red Sox selected 19-year-old high schooler Kyle Arnsberg. Kyle, who catches and plays first base, has been offered a full scholarship to Arizona State. He's leaning toward college and will again be eligible for the draft in three years.
POWER OUTAGE
Heading into last night, CF Vernon Wells has gone 121 at-bats since hitting his last homer. His longest homerless streak (131 at-bats) occurred during the 2002 season.
