Blue Jays fire assistant GM
Bookmark and Share

Bart Given has left the Rogers Centre.

The Blue Jays parted ways with their assistant general manager on Wednesday.

And yesterday, at 5:15 p.m., general manager J.P. Ricciardi sent out the following message through the Major League Baseball EBIS messaging system:

"Please be advised that Bart Given is no longer an employee of the Toronto Blue Jays.

"Bart wishes to remain in baseball, and can be reached at this phone number "Thank you."

Alex Anthopoulos and Given took over Tim McCleary's duties when McCleary was fired after the 2005 season. In 2007, Anthopoulos and Given were named assistant GMs.

Making a change on Jan. 23 is an odd time on the baseball calendar since most contracts expire at the end of October or December.

Born in Brantford, Given joined the Jays in 2000 as travelling secretary.

Do you think Jesse Litsch will bounce back and pitch for the Blue Jays again?
  Yes, the bullpen needs help
No, his injury was too severe
  I don't want him back
