McDonald on a roller-coaster

Blue Jays infielder John McDonald has gone from the highs to the lows.

In late April, McDonald strung together a 10-game hitting streak, the longest of his major-league career, the streak ended on April 30.

Over that time, McDonald went 15-for-32, a .469 average.

Since the streak was snapped, McDonald has gone in the opposite direction and has gone hitless in his past six games going 0-for-14 to have his season average drop to .327.

SLUMP BUSTER

Earlier in the season (April 18-22) the Jays had a five-game losing streak and ended it with consecutive victories in a mini two-game series against the Red Sox in Boston. Jays manager John Gibbons is hoping that history repeats itself as the Jays open a three-game series at home tonight against Boston.

"It's nice to have to face Boston every time you're trying to get yourself out of a streak," Gibbons said jokingly.

SWINGING IT

Third baseman Troy Glaus was one of the few productive hitters on the Jays' 0-6 trip as he went 8-for-22 (.364) with three homers and five RBIs.

His production at the plate earned him American League player of the week honours.

FAULTY TOWERS

In two relief appearances since being removed from the rotation, right-hander Josh Towers has allowed six earned runs on seven hits in five innings for a 10.80 ERA.

ON THE FARM

Right-hander Jesse Litsch allowed one run in eight innings in picking up the win for double-A New Hampshire on Saturday.

Litsch, a 24th-round pick by the Jays in the 2004 June draft, is now 4-1 with a 1.17 ERA in five starts.

He has given up just eight earned runs in 302/3 innings pitched.
