DUNEDIN, Fla. -- Right-hander Casey Janssen hasn't been officially told but it appears he has made the opening day roster as a member of the bullpen.

Janssen threw one inning in yesterday's game against Tampa Bay and is scheduled to throw another inning tomorrow against the Indians. Although Janssen hasn't made any starts this spring he was throwing multiple innings on four days rest (112/3 innings in five appearances), preparing him for a starting role either with the Jays or at triple-A Syracuse.

If the Jays wanted him to start in Syracuse, they wouldn't be cutting his innings back at this point.

"If that's what it's going to be, then that's what it's going to be," Janssen said of the new developments. "I'm just going to go out there and prove that I'm worthy of a job.

"I still feel I can start and be successful there but if this (being in the bullpen) gets me to the big leagues, gets me some experience and then they have a decision, either way it's cool."

DECISION DAY

GM J.P. Ricciardi said the Jays won't wait until the final minutes of spring training to announce their opening day 25-player roster.

"Maybe on Thursday," Ricciardi said yesterday. "It's got clear in a lot of ways."

PITCHING DEPTH

Roy Halladay is buoyed by the depth and quality of competition for the final two rotation spots this spring, especially with what he has seen from .

"I like what I've seen from the guys who are pushing for those spots," Halladay said yesterday. "I think we have some pretty good options, especially Josh coming back and pitching the way he's pitched.

"He was one guy I really hadn't even considered for that fourth or fifth spot. So, to have things like that happen is important for us to be in it."

STILL A GO

Closer B.J. Ryan threw 35 pitches and is on target to appear in a minor-league game tomorrow. He is also scheduled to appear in the Jays final spring training game Saturday against the Reds.

"It went fine," Ryan said of yesterday's session.
