OAKLAND - Nick Punto’s double, combined with an error by left fielder Melky Cabrera, gave the Oakland Athletics a 1-0 12th-inning victory in the second game of a four-game series at the Oakland Coliseum.

The four-hour marathon featured extraordinary pitching on both sides but a leadoff walk set the stage for Punto’s one-out drive down the left field line that scored Derek Norris all the way from first base, as Cabrera misplayed the ball in the left field corner.

The early innings featured a pitcher’s duel between Marcus Stroman and left Tommy Millone. Millone handed off to his bullpen after six, while Stroman worked seven before his relievers took over. In all, 11 pitchers appeared in the game and Chad Jenkins was the unfortunate one to give up the winning hit, after working two solid innings of relief.

For the first six scoreless innings, Stroman and Milone put up almost identical lines, each allowing five baserunners.
