One of the many training camp battles that hasn’t been settled is the Nationals’ second base situation, which manager Matt Williams said he is taking to right down to the final at-bats before making a decision between Anthony Rendon and Danny Espinosa. Espinosa has made more appearances at SS - home of Ian Desmond - than at second this spring, suggesting he’s more likely to return to the utility role he assumed midway through last season after Rendon, the terrific young prospect, was called up.

— The Orioles’ second base clog-up was somewhat settled when light-hitting veteran Steve Lombardozzi was acquired recently, meaning the O’s didn’t want to chance anything to Jemile Weeks or prospect Jonathan Schoop. But this situation could resurface in a month when 3B Manny Machado returns from the DL and frees up Ryan Flaherty to return to second. But who knows, by May, how any of them will have fared?
