The west has always been big on show, from the California gold rush, to Annie Oakley & Bill Hickok and his wild west travelling circus, to the Earps & and the Clantons.

These days it’s the Giants and the Dodgers aiming for another shootout, with both Arizona and Colorado looking to get in on the act.

The NL West includes the best one-to-three rotation in baseball in Los Angeles, a Rockies team on the rise in Colorado, an Arizona management that has joined the big-spenders, a Padres franchise poised for better days, and a Giants franchise that added Tim Hudson to a rotation that has already won two World Series, and is primed for another run.

The Dodgers still have the big names and are favoured to repeat as division champions. Bodog, a wagering site, has them projected to win 92.5 games — more than any other major-league club. And, when you’ve got a $10-million set-up man (take a bow Brian Wilson) L.A. better be good!
