Opening day is less than two weeks away — it is, at least, if you are in a National League-only pool — so here are some early nuggets that may or may not affect your decisions on draft/auction day.

Also, starting tomorrow, we’ll be presenting our annual position-by-position, player-by-player rundown in the Toronto Sun and at torontosun.com, leading off with catchers and designated hitters and ending Friday with the starting pitchers and closers.

— The Diamondbacks are taking both starting shortstop candidates — Didi Gregorius and Chris Owings — to Australia for their season-opening series against the Dodgers next weekend. Both are hitting well over .300 this spring and this battle may not be settled any time soon.

— After an error-prone start defensively, Indians catcher/1B/DH Carlos Santana has started to look comfortable at 3B, making two nice plays (and hitting a HR) on Wednesday. Don’t know if that’s enough to hand him the job outright, but keeper-league owners
