McCutchen, McCutchen and, uh, McCutchen.

Awkward doesn’t begin to describe Ken Griffey Junior’s painful ESPN interview this week.

In a one-on-one conversation with host Linda Cohn, one of Major League Baseball's all-time greats looked disinterested, dazed and everything in between.

While making an appearance to celebrate Upper Deck’s 25th anniversary, Griffey was asked a number of questions on Wednesday, including who is on his favourite baseball card.

“My dad,” Griffey responded rather arrogantly, a smirk coming across his face.

The one word answers continued as the interview went from bad to disaster.

Cohn continued, asking her guest which young outfielder resembles him most.

“McCutchen,” Griffey said.

Next question from Cohn: All around best player?

“McCutchen,” he responded.

No, that’s not a typo, he simply repeated his original answer.

Now then, it’s quite possible Griffey truly believes the Pirates’ Andrew McCutchen resembles him, and is the best all-around player in the game.

Or, maybe something else was going on.

“I want to apologize to Linda for the way things went today,” Griffey wrote to Instagram shortly after his interview with ESPN.

“I was in the middle of a cough attack and felt a little ill and didn’t want to walk off the set. Linda has always been professional to me and my family. I’m sorry, Junior.”

Apology accepted.

Interview, however, not forgotten -- just like these other beauties.
