In the American League, all roads lead to New York, because the Big Apple is where so many story lines reside.

Stories such as Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter. Questions such as who replaces Mariano Rivera and Robinson Cano? And how off-season acquisition — Japan’s Masahiro Tanaka — will fare?

It was just a short time ago that the Yankees brass maintained they would not cross the $189-million luxury-tax threshold. But that went out the window with the signing of Tanaka.

The Yankees off-season dwarfed all others in the American League and also left them with the biggest number of question marks.

Every team has a number of issues regarding injuries, depth and whether or not their young players can fill holes. That’s what spring training is for.

In this AL preview, we won’t be looking at the moves or non-moves by the Blue Jays as there will be an avalanche of stories on their plight in the days and weeks to come.

So, let’s get to it.
