After a few months of waiting and wondering, Navan's Erik Bedard finally has a contract to play baseball this season.

Not so long ago considered a future star, the soon-to-be-35-year-old lefthanded pitcher has agreed to a minor-league deal with Major League Baseball's Tampa Bay Rays. He will be paid $1.1 million if he cracks Tampa's roster.

"I'm excited," said Bedard, who arrived at Tampa's spring training camp in Port Charlotte, Fla., on Thursday. "They're a good team, consistent every year.

"Plus, in Canada it's minus-30 and a lot of snow. Here it's 69 (F)."
