Expectation is the engine that ramps up the pressure to win at playoff time. In this American League Championship Series, the Boston Red Sox and the Detroit Tigers are coming from very different places in that regard.

In short, the Red Sox are playing with house money while the Tigers and their fans have been lugging around a concern that they’ve been in the championship window for two or three years now and that window is in danger of closing on them.
