DETROIT - Victor Martinez was still running hot.

In the Detroit Tigers clubhouse following their 6-3 loss, Martinez had a crush of reporters around his locker asking about his ninth inning run-in with Oakland Athletics closer Grant Balfour.

After Martinez fouled off a pitch, the fiery Balfour started mouthing off. Martinez took exception, ran his mouth and started to stroll to the mound. Both dugouts and benches emptied. The players were always separated and no shoving or punches occurred.

“I just fouled a pitch off and this guy looked at me and I was looking at him,” Martinez said. “He told me ‘What the f--- am I looking at’. Well, f--- him, I don’t take that s---. Not even the greatest closer in the game, Mariano (Rivera) tell you stuff like that.

“I’m not a rookie to try and intimidate with a little s--- like that. I don’t take that s---.”
