The mud-slinging continues.

The lawyer of embattled New York Yankees star Alex Rodriguez strongly believes Major League Baseball's case against his client is "in shambles."

"They can talk a tough game, but we'll see how they act in a courtroom and a court proceeding," Joe Tacopina told USA Today.

"I will annihilate them."

A-Rod is currently appealing a 211-game suspension handed down Aug. 5.

Since the Biogenesis-related news first broke in July, a soap opera of sorts has played out in which A-Rod and his team have competed in a war of words with the league.

The latest development is that the league has presented a settlement that would see A-Rod sit out just 150 games, according to a USA Today source. However, MLB is denying an offer is on the table.

"Every player involved in Biogenesis except Alex Rodriguez accepted their discipline," MLB vice-president Rob Manfred said. "We have detailed information regarding his use of PEDs, which was longer and more pervasive than other players, and about his efforts to obstruct our investigation."

But, Tacopina said, MLB commissioner Bud Selig does not have enough evidence to suspend A-Rod a single game, let alone hundreds.

Tacopina said the league's extensive investigation has been tainted ever since Biogenesis founder Anthony Bosch became its main source. He added they are violating laws in their quest to receive information.

"They have this thug mentality in their investigation," Tacopina said. "They've committed two criminal offences that we know of."
