September callup season is only a couple of weeks away but that hasn’t stopped some major-league teams from getting an early first-hand look at some of their more intriguing prospects. Here are five names worth investigating:

Matt Davidson (3B, Diamondbacks): A terrific prospect with solid power (.278, 16 HRs at triple-A), but there just isn’t the room right now for him to get regular ABs with the Snakes clinging to wild-card contention. For now, if available, he’s a nice buy-low option for NL-only owners looking to next year.

Andrew Lambo (OF, Pirates): RF has been a rare sore spot for the Bucs with Travis Snider and Jose Tabata combining for a .234 AVG and just six HRs. With Alex Rios no longer a possibility, the opportunity now falls to Lambo, 25, whose career seemed to flatline at double-A until he blasted 31 HRs this season, tops in the minors.
