Victor Conte “knows” the impact performance-enhancing drugs have on athletes.

Simply put: “They work,” Conte said.

The BALCO founder, who did four months behind bars for conspiracy to distribute steroids in 2004, chimed in on baseball’s latest drug scandal Wednesday night.

Conte joined Jim Rome on Showtime for a chit-chat on Major League Baseball’s continuous PED problem.

“Listen, performance-enhancing drugs work,” Conte said.

Defining a season as an entire calendar year, Conte ventured to guess how many MLBers are currently using banned substances.

“I believe it’s about 50%,” he said, to Rome’s surprise.

As for the league’s testing policy?

“I basically think it’s inept,” Conte said.

Conte's comments come in the wake of Alex Rodriguez and 12 others being issued suspensions for their alleged involvement with Biogenesis of America, a one-time anti-aging clinic in south Florida.

Conte now operates Scientific Nutrition for Advance Conditioning, a clean supplement company.
