A Kansas City Royals fan found herself in legal hot water after taking a dip in the outfield fountains at Kauffman Stadium during Monday night’s game.
Jessica McCoy of Des Moines, Iowa, was charged with trespassing and resisting arrest. She was also charged with solicitation after she propositioned officers in an attempt to escape trouble.
The 25-year-old was removed from the stadium in handcuffs and spent the night in jail.
“I was drunk,” she told Fox 4 News upon her release Tuesday.
McCoy added: “I don’t really remember it.”
She may not recall what happened, but her exploits were recorded and broadcast for all to see.
Footage and photos of her stunt – which show her holding a beverage – were posted across social media by fellow fans who were nearby. The images quickly went viral and the hashtag “#FountainMom” was trending worldwide on Twitter.
“It might look funny on websites, but it’s a dangerous thing to do,” Royals vice-president of community affairs and publicity Toby Cook told Kansas City radio station KMBZ.
“Not only gets you out of the ballpark really fast, it’s something we want to encourage fans not to consider because somebody could get seriously hurt if they go into the fountain.”
The Royals beat the Minnesota Twins 13-0 Monday.
