One of baseball’s most successful active players, Derek Jeter, injured all season, will take a giant step towards a full recovery Saturday.

Shelved with an ankle injury since last October, Jeter is slated to play at least five innings for the New York Yankees’ Triple-A affiliate, according to a Friday report from FOXSports.com.

Jeter, 39, has had several setbacks since undergoing surgery to repair his broken ankle. The 13-time all-star began the 2013 season on the 60-day disabled list.

The Yankees, who, as of Friday afternoon, were 46-39 and third in the AL East, have missed Jeter’s consistency at the plate. As a team, they’re batting .205.

On Saturday, Jeter and the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders will face the Leigh Valley IronPigs.
