San Diego Padres CEO Tom Garfinkel is in hot water after audio of his talk with season ticket holders — where he referred to Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Zack Greinke as “Rain Man” – leaked Thursday.

In his four and half minute chat to Padres faithful, Garfinkel blamed the former AL Cy Young Award winner for starting the Padres-Dodgers bench-clearing brawl last week, and was unabashed about attacking the pitcher’s known social anxiety disorder.

On April 11, Greinke threw a 3-2 pitch inside to Padres leftfielder Carlos Quentin, plunking the ball off the batter’s left shoulder. Quentin charged the mound, and, bracing for the impact, Greinke lowered his left shoulder before suffering a broken collarbone as a result of the collision.

"He threw at (Quentin) on purpose, OK?,” Garfinkel said of Greinke, who will miss at least another six weeks. “That's what happened. They can say 3-and-2 count, 2-1 game, no one does that.

“Zack Greinke is a different kind of guy. Anyone seen 'Rain Man'? He's a very smart guy."

Garfinkel later apologized for his comments.

"I was emotional the day after the game and regrettably, while defending our player, I said some things I shouldn't have, especially as it relates to Zack Greinke," he told Yahoo! Sports. "I was out of line and I apologize.

"Obviously, I don't condone fighting and I wish it wouldn't have happened. You never want to see any player get hurt."

Quentin has been hit 116 times in his career, placing him 49th on the all-time HBP list, and ninth among active players. He was suspended eight games for charging Greinke. It should be noted that Quentin stands at 6-foot-2, 240 pounds while Greinke is the same height, but 45 pounds lighter.
