Giants' Buster Posey a good shot to win NL MVP
By MIKE RUTSEY, QMI Agency

It’s less than six weeks until opening day, but it’s never too early to handicap who the winners will be when they hand out the major hardware at the conclusion of the 2013 season. The following is our top five list of potential National League MVP candidates, in no particular order:

BUSTER POSEY San Francisco Giants

The San Francisco Giants catcher was the runaway winner of the award last year and there is nothing in his resume to suggest that he is not capable of a repeat performance in 2013. Posey’s 2012 season was all the more remarkable because he was returning from an injury following a collision in a May 25 game against the Miami Marlins. In a play at the plate, Posey suffered a fractured bone in his left leg and three torn ankle ligaments that wiped out the remainder of his season. And that isn’t even factoring in the rigours and wear-and-tear of the catching position.
