If the Colorado Rockies's Todd Helton was looking to get lucky, he picked a bad time to do it.
The first baseman's recent DUI arrest occurred after a drunken trip to buy lottery tickets.
Helton was arrested early Wednesday in Thornton, Colo., for suspicion of driving under the influence. According to TMZ, citing a police report, officers tracked down Helton after a tip noted that his pickup truck struck a median before parking at a nearby gas station.
Officers found Helton stumbling out of the gas station reeking of booze and holding lottery tickets. Helton denied striking a median but “made spontaneous statements about drinking two igloo cups of red wine.”
According to the report, Helton was also “respectful and professional throughout the entire process.”
