St. Louis Cardinals ace Chris Carpenter is out for the 2013 season, and possibly forever.

Cardsí general manager John Mozeliak told reporters Tuesday that the 37-year-old pitcher is experiencing numbness and bruising in his right shoulder and hand. Itís the same nerve problem that kept Carpenter out for most of the 2012 season.

The former Cy Young award winner had surgery in July to repair nerves and returned to the lineup, starting in six games, including three in the playoffs.
