Chicken and egg questions give us problems.

Which came first? Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulos, who did the work to put together the 12-player deal with the Miami Marlins and the seven-player deal with the New York Mets? Or, Jays president Paul Beeston getting approval from Rogers Communications for the extra expenditures?

It was the question to answer as we tried to decide who was the winner in our sixth annual most influential Canadians in baseball in 2012.

While both Anthopoulos and Beeston had seasons to forget — like their team, the trading of their manager, who told them a year before he didn’t want to stay — they finished the year strong.

The Jays’ deals with the Marlins and Mets could mean their opening day starter from last season, Ricky Romero, is No. 5 in the 2013 rotation.

Who deserves the most credit?
