Chicago Cubs manager Dale Sveum might be a little gun-shy these days.

Sveum was shot in his right ear by former teammate and Hall of Famer Robin Yount while stalking quail on a recent hunting trip.

Sveum was about 50 metres ahead of Yount when the shooting happened.

“He pulled the trigger, and I was like, ‘Uh, oh’,” Sveum told the Chicago Tribune. “Luckily I was just kind of climbing, looking for birds myself when (he shot at a bird) behind me. So I got drilled with pellets in the back and one stuck in my ear.”

The pellet was removed and despite losing some blood and was not hospitalized.

Sveum even asked the media not to make a big deal of it.

“He got the bird,” Sveum said, adding that he jokingly called Yount Dick Cheney after the incident.
