The Braves are in a playoff race in the National League, but Chipper Jones is upset that the fans in Atlanta aren't getting too excited.

"Come on Atlanta!" the Braves third baseman tweeted after a game Tuesday night.

"The Ted was a morgue tonite. We need you in full force. We feed off you guys. No excuse for the loss! Just sayin ..."

The Braves are averaging crowds of 29,247 to Turner Field this season, ranking 16th out of the 30 MLB teams.

ANGELS ACE AILING

Angels pitcher Jered Weaver, who hasn't thrown since being hit on the right shoulder by a batted ball Sunday, flew back to Los Angeles on Wednesday to be examined by a doctor.

Weaver is scheduled to pitch Friday against the Detroit Tigers.

"Let's just wait," manager Mike Scioscia said when asked if Weaver would miss the game.

"We have a day off (Thursday), which can help things, so we're going to just wait for some direction and we'll make a decision."

BRIEFLY

Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Chad Billingsley is out for the season because of an injured right elbow. The right-hander was moved to the 60-day disabled list Wednesday. His treatments have included injections of platelet-rich plasma in the elbow ... Sabermetrician Bill James has returned to the Red Sox, the Boston Herald reported. "He's the father, so to speak, of baseball analysis and a brilliant iconoclast who looks at things differently from everyone else," owner John Henry said ... Pitcher Jeff Niemann could rejoin the Rays before the end of the season, the Tampa Tribune reported. The right-hander received "good news" after having his pitching shoulder examined by Dr. James Andrews.
