Boston Red Sox outfielder Ryan Sweeney will be sidelined for up to eight weeks after punching a door at Fenway Park out of frustration.
Sweeney was pulled from the lineup at the start of the ninth inning Monday night, leading to speculation he had been traded.
Instead, Sweeney was making an appointment for X-rays, having broken a bone in his left hand.
"I feel like I just let the team down," said Sweeney, who smacked the door after being robbed of a hit against the Detroit Tigers. "I feel terrible right now. Obviously when you hit something and you just have so much adrenalin going and you don't know what happened. So afterward it just hurt a little bit."
Sweeney is hitting .260 with no homers and 16 RBI.
