Reggie Jackson trying to make amends

Reggie Jackson says he is reaching out to make personal apologies to those he offended with comments he made to Sports Illustrated last week.
"In trying to convey my feelings about a few issues that I am passionate about, I made the mistake of naming some specific players," the New York Yankees special adviser said in a statement Thursday.
Jackson was banished from the team last weekend for saying that stats compiled by Yankees star Alex Rodriguez were tainted by his admitted drug use.
Jackson also said that Bert Blyleven, Gary Carter, Phil Niekro, Kirby Puckett, Jim Rice and Don Sutton didn't belong in the Baseball Hall of Fame.
"This was inappropriate and unfair to those players, some of which are very close friends of mine," Jackson said. "I think there are ways to speak from the heart without hurting people, and I'm disappointed that I didn't take greater care in expressing my views."
He also apologized to the Yankees for any disruption he caused in the clubhouse.
