Cardinals release J.C. Romero

The St. Louis Cardinals have given veteran pitcher J.C. Romero his unconditional release.

St. Louis, MO (Sports Network) - The St. Louis Cardinals have given veteran pitcher J.C. Romero his unconditional release.

Romero had no record with a 10.13 earned run average in eight innings over 11 games this season for the Cardinals.

The 34-year-old lefty is 34-28 with a 4.15 ERA in 675 career games, just 22 of which have been starts.

St. Louis recalled right-handed pitcher Eduardo Sanchez from Triple-A Memphis to fill the roster spot.

The 23-year-old Sanchez was 3-1 with a 1.80 ERA in 26 games for the Cardinals last season. He struck out 35 batters and recorded five saves.
