The Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday confirmed the signing of left-handed pitcher Jeff Francis.

The Vancouver native has signed a minor-league contract but will have the opportunity at spring training to win a spot in the Reds rotation.

The 31-year-old was 6-16 with the Kansas City Royals last season with a 4.82 earned-run average.

The Reds also finalized a one-year contract with outfielder Ryan Ludwick. The 33-year-old hit .237 last season with 13 homers and 75 RBI for the San Diego Padres and Pittsburgh Pirates.

Is the season lost for the Toronto Blue Jays or is there still time to turn things around?
Plenty of time to get it turned around
They're quickly running out of time
It's lost. When do the Argos start?
It was over before it began
