Tigers, Marlins keen on Cespedes
By QMI Agency
When Cuban outfielder Yoenis Cespedes is declared a free agent -- it could be any day, now -- the Detroit Tigers, Miami Marlins and Seattle Mariners will be the prime pursuers, FoxSports.com reported Monday.
Cespedes, 26, has been playing in the Dominican Republic while he waits to be declared a free agent but is hitting only .143 in nine games.
The Tigers' interest may have gone up with designated hitter Victor Martinez out for the season because of a knee injury. Should they sign Cespedes, he could move to left field, with Delmon Young becoming the DH. There are also are reports the Tigers could pursue Johnny Damon, Raul Ibanez, Hideki Matsui or Juan Pierre as the DH.
