Prior to the start of a critical three-game series with AL Central-leading Detroit, the Cleveland Indians activated outfielder Grady Sizemore from the 15-day disabled list.

Sizemore had surgery to repair a sports hernia on July 21, just four days after departing a game at Baltimore with a right knee contusion.

The 29-year-old opened the season on the DL as he recovered from microfracture surgery on his left knee. He then missed two weeks in May with the same type of injury he suffered against the Orioles.

In 61 games, Sizemore is batting .237 with 10 home runs, 21 doubles and 29 RBI.

Cleveland entered Monday’s series-opener 6 1/2 games behind the Tigers.
