Rockies Nicasio hit in head by line drive
By Sports Network

Denver, CO – Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Juan Nicasio was hit in the head by a line drive to start the second inning of Friday's game against Washington.

Nicasio was pegged on the right side of his head on a hit by Ian Desmond on the second pitch of the frame. Nicasio tumbled to the mound head-first and remained on his back. He was tended to by paramedics before being fitted with a neck brace. Nicasio was lifted onto a stretcher and carted off the field before heading to a local hospital.

Nicasio was seen talking throughout the process, as Rockies manager Jim Tracy, first baseman Todd Helton and catcher Chris Iannetta were nearby.

Going into Friday's game, Nicasio carried a 4-3 record with a 3.95 ERA for the season.

Nicasio, who was 4-0 at home this year, gave up a two-run triple to Ryan Zimmerman in the first inning.

Edgmer Escalona came on to replace Nicasio.
