Pirates continue upgrade with Ludwick

PHILADELPHIA -- One day after picking up first baseman Derrek Lee, the Pittsburgh Pirates continued to bolster their lineup on Sunday, as they acquired outfielder Ryan Ludwick from the San Diego Padres for a player to be named later.
Ludwick, who was moved from St. Louis to San Diego at last year's deadline, has underachieved this season for the Padres, hitting just .238 with 11 home runs and 64 RBI with 87 strikeouts.
Pittsburgh, though, is hoping the right-handed slugger reverts back to his 2008 form that saw him swat 37 homers and knock in 113 runs for the Cardinals. However, he's never come close to duplicating that type of production.
The Pirates, who were 3 1/2 games back of the Milwaukee Brewers for first place in the National Central heading into play on Sunday, acquired Lee on Saturday for minor league first baseman Aaron Baker.
