MINNEAPOLIS - The Minnesota Twins have placed pitcher Scott Baker on the 15-day disabled list to rest his strained right elbow.
The move, which is retroactive to July 7, comes just before the Twins start an important three-game series with division-leading Cleveland. Baker was supposed to start the early portion of a doubleheader on Monday, but the pitcher was not feeling right according to MLB.com.
In other moves, the Twins selected the contract of left-handed pitcher Scott Diamond from Triple-A Rochester. Diamond will make his major league debut as the starter of Monday's night game, with Anthony Swarzak moved up to pitch the day game.
Diamond is 4-8 with a 4.70 ERA with Rochester this season.
The Twins also sent infielder Matt Tolbert to Rochester and recalled pitcher Chuck James.
