Ortiz appeals four-game suspension
By Sports Network

St. Petersburg, FL - Boston Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz is appealing his four-game suspension.

Ortiz received the punishment for his role in a benches-clearing melee with the Orioles last Friday.

After hitting a fly ball, Ortiz went after and took a swing at Baltimore pitcher Kevin Gregg for yelling at the DH to run the bases.

Gregg was also suspended four games and Orioles reliever Mike Gonzalez was suspended three games for intentionally throwing at Ortiz in Sunday's ballgame after warnings had previously been issued. Gonzalez and Gregg are appealing their suspensions.

Ortiz was in the lineup against the Rays on Friday.
