BRONX, NY - New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez has a slight meniscus tear in his right knee and could need surgery.

Rodriguez underwent an MRI exam on Friday and Yankees manager Joe Girardi revealed the results before Saturday's game against Tampa Bay.

The decision on whether to have surgery rests with Rodriguez, who had been kept out of Friday's lineup because of the injury. The scheduled game was rained out.

Rodriguez, who was 0-for-4 in Thursday's game against the Rays, also pulled out of the All-Star Game on Friday because of the issue.

In 80 games entering Saturday's action, Rodriguez is batting .295 with 13 homers and 52 runs batted in.

They're quickly running out of time
