BRONX, N.Y. - New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter is set to begin a rehab assignment in Trenton this weekend and will likely return to the majors from his calf injury next week in Cleveland.

Jeter has been on the disabled list since June 14 and has been working out in Tampa. He strained his right calf during a June 13 game against Cleveland.

When he returns to the Yankees, the veteran will resume his quest for 3,000 hits. He is just six shy of the milestone.

In 62 games this season, Jeter is batting .260 with a pair of homers and 20 runs batted in.
