Fort Pierce, FL - Detroit Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera was charged with drunken driving late Wednesday.
The St. Lucie County Sheriff's Office confirmed that Cabrera was arrested after a deputy spotted Cabrera along the side of the road.
Cabrera's car engine was smoking and when the deputy pulled over to help, he noticed the smell of alcohol on Cabrera, who had slurred speech and then took a drink from a bottle of scotch in front of the deputy.
The arrest report went on to say that Cabrera had refused to cooperate and was taken into custody. He posted bond and was released on Thursday.
It's not the first time Cabrera has run into trouble. On October 3, 2009, he got into a fight with his wife after drinking the night before the Tigers lost the American League Central Division title to the Twins. Three months later, he entered an alcohol abuse treatment center and had supposedly been sober prior to this incident.
The eight-year veteran batted .328 with a career-high 38 home runs along with 126 RBI over 150 games last season. He is a career .313 batter with 247 home runs and 879 RBI over 1,190 games with Florida and Detroit.
