BOSTON -- The Boston Red Sox made it official with Bobby Jenks on Tuesday as the reliever signed a two-year contract on Tuesday.

Last Thursday, the Boston Globe reported that the deal will pay the hard- throwing right-hander $12 million, although no financial terms were disclosed.

The 29-year-old Jenks has compiled a 14-18 record with a 3.40 earned run average and 173 saves over the last six seasons, all with the White Sox.

He was not tendered a contract by the Chicago White Sox two weeks ago, making him a free agent.

Jenks is initially expected to be used in a set-up role to Boston closer Jonathan Papelbon.
