Tigers sell pitcher to Japan

DETROIT -- The Detroit Tigers have released pitcher Alfredo Figaro after selling his contract to the Orix Buffaloes of the Japanese Baseball League.

Figaro, 26, spent most of last season with Triple-A Toledo, but made eight major league appearances (one start) and posted a 6.75 earned run average in 14 2/3 innings. In 23 starts with Toledo in 2010, Figaro went 10-6 with a 4.14 ERA.

The right-hander has appeared in 13 games (four starts) over the last two seasons with the Tigers, going 2-4 with a 6.54 ERA.
