Walnut Creek, CA – The Oakland Athletics are expected to introduce outfielder Hideki Matsui during a Tuesday press conference.

The Contra Costa Times reported on Monday evening that the 36-year-old Matsui will likely not take his physical until Tuesday morning, with the official announcement of his signing to take place after. The paper cited a deal worth approximately $6 million for one year.

Matsui hit .274 with 21 homers and 84 RBI in 145 games with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in 2010.

That followed a successful seven-year run with the New York Yankees, which saw the native of Japan finish second in American League Rookie of the Year voting in 2003 by hitting .287 with 16 homers and 106 RBI in 163 games.

Matsui bookended his Yankees career by earning World Series MVP honors in 2009 after batting a torrid .615 (8-for-13) with a double, three homers and eight RBI in a six-game triumph over Philadelphia.

Over his eight-year major-league career, Matsui is a .290 hitter with 161 homers, 220 doubles and has driven in 681 runs during 1,061 games.
