Anaheim, CA – The Angels announced Friday their signing of left-handed relief pitcher Scott Downs to a three-year contract.
Financial terms were not available, but FoxSports.com reported the deal to be worth $15 million over the length of the contract.
"We are pleased to announce the acquisition of Scott," said Angels general manager Tony Reagins. "He has competed at a very high level for several years, and his addition adds tremendous depth to our bullpen."
Downs was a critical part of Toronto's bullpen last season and spent the last six years with the Blue Jays. In 2010, the 34-year-old went 5-5 with a 2.64 earned run average in 67 appearances. He recorded a club record 26 holds.
In nine seasons with the Cubs, Expos and Blue Jays, Downs is 27-28 with a 3.79 ERA in 379 games, including 50 starts. He has not, however, started a game since the 2006 season.
