LOS ANGELES - One day after cutting catcher Russell Martin loose, the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday signed backstop Rod Barajas to a one-year deal.

Barajas finished last season with the Dodgers after coming over in an August trade with the New York Mets. He hit .297 with five home runs and 13 RBI in 25 games with LA and belted 17 home runs in 99 games overall.

The 35-year-old Barajas entered the big leagues in 1999 with the Arizona Diamondbacks and has also spent time with the Texas Rangers, Philadelphia Phillies and Toronto Blue Jays.

The Dodgers didn't tender an offer to Martin, their catcher since 2006, before the Thursday deadline.
