TORONTO - The Cliff Lee sweepstakes is gathering momentum. The Rangers brass made their second trip to visit the left-handed pitcher in Arkansas on Tuesday and may, or may not, have come with a formal offer.

George King of the New York Post says the Rangers have prepared a five-year deal and that Texas believes the Yankees have already offered a deal of their own. Other reports yesterday dispute that.

GM Jon Daniels would confirm to MLB.com only that he had met with Lee and agent Darek Braunecker in Arkansas on Tuesday.

It is expected that, when all is said and done, Lee will end up with a five or six-year deal worth about $23 million US a year.
