ARLINGTON - The Texas Rangers announced outfielder Jeff Francoeur filed for free agency on Wednesday.

The Rangers acquired Francoeur just prior to the August 31 waiver trade deadline this past season from the New York Mets, and the 26-year-old outfielder hit .340 with two home runs and 11 RBI in 15 regular season games with the club.

He appeared in nine games for the American League champions in the playoffs and only went 3-for-24 at the plate while knocking in just one run.

The former first-round pick of the Braves in 2002 has been with three teams the past two seasons. He is a career .268 hitter with 101 home runs and 465 RBI, striking out 603 times as opposed to 168 walks in 845 contests.
