NEW YORK -- Free agent infielder Derrek Lee reportedly had surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right thumb.

MLB.com cited multiple media reports as saying the procedure was performed at the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopedic Clinic in Los Angeles last Friday by Dr. Steven Shin.

Lee is expected to be ready for spring training.

The 35-year-old slugger spent the 2010 season with the Chicago Cubs and Atlanta Braves, hitting .260 with 19 home runs, 80 runs batted in and 35 doubles in 148 games.

After being acquired by Atlanta on August 18 for three prospects, Lee helped the Braves secure a wild card berth by batting .287 with three homers, 14 doubles and 34 RBI in 39 games.

Ligament damage may have been a significant factor in Lee's drop-off in 2010, coming off a 2009 season with the Cubs which saw him bat .306 with 35 homers, 36 doubles and 111 RBI.
